Great Sphinx

     

A Statue with human face and lion body ,Guarding tombs and temples and it has been sculptured of stone .his head represent king Khafre who  lived 26th century BC 
There are many statues in Egypt have the form of sphinx, represent kings and God of sun, and the statue is often bearded .Many statues have been placed on both sides of the roads which lead to Pharaonic temples in Teba but they have got heads of rams

 In ancient times Sphinx used to call Bohoor and finally has been distorted to abolhaol or Sphinx . before the French campaign in Egypt the Great sphinx and the three pyramids were  covered with sand.and during the French campaign they have been uncovered and that happened because of a storm which uncovered them

there are a gate between its legs called gate of dreams which has a inscription  tells us a story about  Thutmosis  1400-1390 BC who slept beside the head of Great sphinx and dreamed of Great sphinx promised him to be a king if he free him from the sand of desert
why is Great sphinx without nose
    the nose and the beard were destroyed during the French campaign and were victims of shots of artillery

  Great sphinx has been seen many times in the Hollywood movies  such as  Cleopatra in 1963 and Prince Of Egypt
       when you come to Egypt you can see Great sphinx in Giza beside The pyramids
