Library of Alexandria




Ancient Library of Alexandria -which now disappeared -and the modern one replaced

Ancient Library of Alexandria considered  the largest and most glorious great library of the ancient world .It is assumed to have been constructed at the beginning of the 3rd century BC the reign of Ptolemy II of Egypt but other said that it was Alexander the Great who intended to build it during constructing of Alexandria  .   Julius Caesar accidentally burned the library down when he set fire to his own ships to frustrate Achillas' attempt to limit his ability to communicate by sea .
Library of Alexandria was the first known library of its kind to gather a serious collection of books from out of  its country's borders . it had more than 700,000 books and manuscripts .
the modern Library of Alexandria .....................
in 2002 and with the support of the United Nations Organization for Education and Culture "UNESCO" was inaugurated the new Alexandria library .
it is the first digital library in the twenty-first century , contains of Egyptian cultural and humanitarian heritage  and a center for study, dialogue and tolerance .capacity of more than 8 million books,6 specialized libraries, 3 museums, 7 research centers, sky Dome, and a conference center .
