Whales Valley



Whales Valley or "Wadi Al-Hitan in Arabic" is located in Fayyum , within the protected area of Wadi Al Rayan ,and it consider the first site in Egypt to join the World Natural Heritage in 2005.
Whales valley famous with Whale fossils which were there before 40 million years when the valley was located under the ocean , and there are many other fossils such as sharks, crocodiles, sawfish and turtles ,and it  is also home to 15 species of desert plants, and about 15 types of wild mammals , including the north African jackal, red fox, Egyptian mongoose, African wildcat, and dorcas gazelle.

also, attracted by the lakes at Wadi El-Rayan are recorded 19 species of reptiles and 36 species of breeding birds .
and the place prepared to receive visitors, it is open museum,and about 1,000 visitors a year come to wadi Al-Hitan , for the most part visitors to wadi Al-Hitan are foreigners, who usually camp in the valley on winter weekends.
there are also a mountain front Wadi El-Rayan known as the mountain of hell because in the light of the sun, the mountain seems ablaze with an eerie red light.  
Whales Valley or "Wadi Al-Hitan" Selected by the UNESCO  as the best areas of the skeletons of whales.
